NIA Arrests PFI Bihar President

On Saturday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended Mehboob Alam, also known as Mehboob Alam Nadvi, who serves as the Bihar state president of the Popular Front of India (PFI). This arrest is linked to the 2022 Phulwari Sharif criminal conspiracy case, which poses a significant threat to national security and public order.

Mehboob Alam hails from the Hasanganj locality in Katihar district, Bihar, and was taken into custody in Kishanganj. To date, a total of 19 individuals have been arrested in connection with this case, and a charge sheet has been submitted against them. Initially, local authorities had filed an FIR against 26 suspects.

The NIA's investigation has uncovered that members of the PFI were engaged in unlawful and anti-national activities, aiming to incite communal discord and instill fear among the populace. A significant finding was a clandestine document titled 'India 2047 – Towards Rule of Islam in India,' which outlined plans for establishing Islamic governance in the country. This document was confiscated from Ahmed Palace in Phulwarisharif, Patna, on July 11, 2022.

Further inquiries revealed that Mehboob Alam played a crucial role in this conspiracy, actively recruiting members, organizing training sessions and meetings, and promoting PFI's ideology. He was also involved in fundraising efforts to support other accused individuals and PFI members.
